March 20, 2019 – Meeting
We had 27 people that attended tonight’s meeting.
Joan started the meeting with reminders and information.
Section B. Vice President: The Vice President shall preform the duties of the President during the latter’s absence or disability and any other duties as may be required by the constitution or as delegated or discussed with the President.
It must maintain the 106 degrees for 2.5 hours on a hive.
Bryan will be using this Thermal Instrument this year. He had attended an introduction to the Bee Hive Thermal Industries in NY last year.

Several of us did not get renewal forms this year so check to see if your registration is valid. If not or if you have not registered before, it is easy to register on line.
Three Differences that I never make clear enough.
PA State Beekeepers Assoc. – not mandatory – but suggested to join. This is the State Organization for beekeepers. This organization acts as an advocate for all PA Beekeepers.
This organization also has the Honey Queen Program.
They hold a large Conference in the fall, with well known speakers from around the world. (Individual annual fee $20 – couples -$25)
You may not see all this organization does for you, but they do work for every PA Beekeepers. Once you join you will receive a newsletter.
PA Department of Ag. – Two different departments – For two different types of registrations.

Joan started the meeting with reminders and information.
- Swarm call list - Joan is working on the swarm call list now. Final list will be available by the end of the month. Please contact Joan with any additions or changes
- Mentor list – Joan is working on the mentor list now and if you want to be a mentor please contact Joan to be added to the list.
- Terramycin – Maurice Herbstritt was concerned about beekeepers not being able to get terramycin for their bees when needed, without a vet writing a prescription. He talked to Glen Thompson in Harrisburg and it would help if more people call him to get support for the beekeepers. His number is 814-353-0215
- Rock painting Party – for young and old!!!! Sign up for March 30th from 1-3 at the Penn State Extension in Coudersport. Bryan has a program for children.
- Potter County Fair Add – Last month the club approved $75 to be spent for the add. The Add is actually $80. One member donated the $5 to cover the different and also additional funds to be used for the Potter County Fair booth expenses.
- The executive committee met and decided to make two changes to the constitution. Please look at the constitution on the club web site. The changes will be brought up for discussion and to be voted on at a future meeting. (changes are underlined and in bold)

- Bryan gave a great introduction to the Bee Hive Thermal Industries. He demonstrated how it is to be used and at what temperatures depending on if you are using one (70 degrees outside temp.) or two deeps (80 degrees outside temp.) for the brood boxes.

- David Houk brought in the oxalic acid equipment that he has used and has offered for members to purchase it at a great savings from a place in SC and he will bring them up on his next trip.
- PA State Registration of Hives. This is a benefit for all members.

- NEXT MEETING is Wednesday, April 17th, 6 PM at the Penn State Extension, Coudersport.

- To register your apiary once you have one hive or more -MANDATORY REGISTRATION - $10 for two years
- To register your “Honey House” location where you extract and bottle your honey. MANDATORY REGISTRATION IF YOU SELL ANY HONEY. No fee to register - $35 fee if you want/need the actual paper certificate.
