North Central PA Beekeepers Assoc
October 17, 2018
This was the last meeting for 2018. There were 23 people in attendance.
Joel had researched and found several videos for us to watch to help us all with different topics. I have added in the link information in the minutes for some of them.
Oxalic Acid Vapour treatment with a Provap 110 – a Canadian Beekeepers Blog
Just put that in as I did not get the link.
How To Use Your New Oxalic Acid Vaporizer from dlan.com" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/naz6OQQlXAI
Watch "Oxalic Acid Dribble Method Mite Treatment - Getting Bees Ready for Winter | Bee Vlog #18" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/0vKlP0-fE3U
Watch "Mite Away Quick Strips Application Video (Canadian)" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/kxQwHir99vg
There was much discussion, questions and answers, about the videos and also about what people do and don’t do. A lot of sharing information.
Thanks to Joel for all he did for the meeting.
Leon Hess talked about how he uses an insect fogger with oxalic acid on his hives. He said most important is to play with it first to see how it works and also to rinse it thoroughly every time you use it. He said there are You Tube videos on doing it.
Joel showed a hive cover he had made. We then discussed different ways to winter our hives. Joel commented that wind and moisture are two of the things we have to protect our bees against.
The discussion then covered many ways to winter our hives and what different people have done. Wrapping hives, wind breaks, feeding. Tom brought in a feeder that he made.
Joel, also discussed making creamed honey.
The next meeting should be on Wednesday, February 20th, 2019.
Bryan had reported that he had gone to an event in NY and they showed a new piece of equipment that kills mites without chemicals. The device uses thermal heat. You can watch it on
http://youtu.be/tUMbaP-9da0
website https://www.beehivethermalindustries.com/
We reviewed the club website again. If you have equipment to sell or want to buy some, you want to check out the equipment for sale section on the web site. Have something to sell? Let Bryan or Joan know.
Another You Tube video worth watching is Landi Simone “Reading Frames”
This was suggested by Frank and we found it really interesting and helpful.
Please send Joan a list of any topics you would like discussed at the meetings.
Joel brought up that we should add a section to the website that lists who has honey to sell and where they are located. We will get together to discuss the possibilities. We will be setting a meeting to discuss this. Anyone wanting to come to the meeting, please let Joan know.
Respectfully submitted
